Another week, another story up on Substack. I’m nothing if not consistent.
Yesterday I just finished the first draft of a fun 40,000+ word Sword & Sorcery tale. It was a fun ride. Now I shove it in a metaphorical drawer (it is saved as a Word document on my laptop) for 6 months before coming back to rewrite it. It is in very rough form and will require some major overhauls but, I feel that the bones are good.
1000 new words per day. That’s my daily writing requirement since 2023. So far, so good. It’s easier when you stumble on a compelling character and story. The barbarian was a fun one. Here’s hoping I find a new adventure to write about soon.
Speaking of fun adventures, I’m midway through editing Soiled Undies & Other Gorgon Encounters. I’m moving along at one chapter per day. I’m in the third story of the book, the one that caused my test readers and me the most trouble. It is going better than expected. Yes, there have been some major edits but, the trouble spots weren’t as difficult to identify as I feared and I think (hope) that the changes improve the story a lot.
Meanwhile, to keep you entertained in the interim, here is the 8th story from my Not the Tales You Remember collection of altered fairy tales:
