Sub, Sub, Sub

April 3, 2026

Busy week.

Submitted “Fromage & Failure” to the Raconteur Press ‘For Want of a Nail’ anthology
Submitted “Half-Baked Curses” to the Raconteur Press ‘The Muse Within Us’ anthology – this is a good one. Made Sunghee cry with happiness at two parts. Probably my best so far.
Submitted “Translocating Tea Cups” to Quest Magazine
Submitted “Isn’t It Funny?” to Stone’s Throw Magazine
A Midnight Kind of Place rejected my story “The Day Mama Died” so I submitted it to Horrific Scribes Magazine

I wrote Talia’s Monster for the Raconteur Press upcoming anthology “My Pet Monster”. Had to stretch the 1700 word original to 5300 words to fit their submission requirements. Had to dig deep to find more to the story. I feel like it went well but there is editing yet to do. Hope to finish over the weekend.

Began the agent query process. Researched the top agents for Soiled Undies. Drafted a query letter. And found myself stymied at the query submission page when it asked for word count. A 50,000 word minimum. Soiled Undies is 45,000. Frustrating and arbitrary. Could let it stop me but instead, I’ve accepted the challenge. After all, I just reworked Talia’s Monster from its original 1700 words to 5300. I should be able to discover 5000 words more story in a 45,000 word book. It’s not easy but I am working my way through looking for as yet undeveloped corners of the story. Will set me back a week or two but I suppose that is the journey.

Posted Piggies and Wolves and Sharks, Oh My! to my Substack today. Second last story in my Not the Tales You Remember collection. Also available on Amazon.

There are four more short fiction submission opportunities closing April 15th. Should keep me busy.
