30:1, that seems to be the ratio. For every 30 rejections, I get one accepted story. Some rejections hurt more than others.
This past week I finished my draft of Uncle Jake’s Follies for submission to an upcoming anthology in July. I have also been working on editing/expanding Ghost Drivers and a longer Sword & Sorcery story for a couple of June anthologies.
I’m also doing the layout for Soiled Undies, intent on getting the book in print next month as promised. There is much to do on this, but AI has proved helpful for formatting.
No new submissions this week, but I have 3 standing by, waiting for June submission windows to open.
Cassandra from Screaming Scorpion Press sent me the most delightful rejection letter regarding my comedy horror Happy Bris-Day. She told me that my story made the second round of consideration, and she hoped to see more of my work. She clearly got the humour (which was not a given). The fact that she took the time to respond personally and that she clearly read and understood the story meant a lot. It made the rejection pill go down easier.
Not as much luck with The Best Kind of Pet which I wrote for Raconteur’s Pet Monster anthology. I really loved the writing prompt and wanted to be in that anthology. Also thought my story was strong. This rejection hurt. But it does leave me with what I believe is a solid story. I will begin searching for a home for it.
This week I published Three Beats – Reanimating Hitler to my Substack:
